Jolette Law Accepts Assistant Coaching Position at Tennessee

UPDATE - 5:00 p.m. ET: Jolette Law has indeed joined Holly Warlick's staff."I have known Jolette since she was a high school prepster we recruited out of Florence, South Carolina," said Warlick in a release. "Our Lady Vol teams competed against her while she was a standout player at the University of Iowa, and I've gone head-to-head in recruiting and coaching against her while she was top assistant to Rutgers' Hall of Fame Coach C. Vivian Stringer.

"Besides the X's and O's of the game and her reputation as an excellent recruiter, Jolette is just a great individual and a terrific role model. She will be a great fit for us at Tennessee."

After Pat Summitt's announcement that she'd be stepping down as head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols, many responded with reflections on her career, her role in the growth of women's basketball, and her legacy as one of the greatest coaches in our nation has seen.

We had the opportunity to get a few additional thoughts from someone who was just getting to know the legendary coach that others have known so well: Lady Vols freshman forward Cierra Burdick.

Pat has meant a lot to me. She is one of the strongest people I've ever met and I think she has truly maximized that with her announcement of early onset dementia. I am truly honored and blessed to say I was coached by Pat Summit.

BREAKING: Pat Summitt Steps Down As Head Coach, Holly Warlick Taking Over For Tennessee Lady Vols

After 1,098 career victories and eight national titles, Pat Summitt has stepped down as head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols.

Summitt, who began her career at the helm of the Lady Vols program in 1974 turns over the reigns to her long-time assistant Holly Warlick. A former Tennessee point guard under Summitt, Warlick has been on the coaching staff for the past 27 seasons. She saw her coaching role grow exponentially last year after the news broke that Summitt had been diagnosed with early onset dementia. This move comes less than eight months after the initial diagnosis was revealed.

"I feel like Holly's been doing the bulk of it,'' Summitt said to Go Vols Xtra. "She deserves to be the head coach. I'm going to support her. No doubt, I'll be there for her."

Nobody could ever doubt that the Tennessee Lady Vols had an abundance of individual talent this year, despite some bumps in the road during the season.

But it looks like they're starting to come together as a team, as captured by Chris Pendley of SB Nation's Rocky Top Talk in giving credit to the Lady Vols' seniors who stepped up their games to lead the team to a 70-58 win over the LSU Tigers in the 2012 SEC Tournament Final.

Having already lost to the Louisiana State Tigers just a short month ago, the folks at SB Nation's Kentucky site A Sea Of Blue were already well-aware of the obstacle that Nikki Caldwell's team posed to the Wildcats in their quest for a program-first SEC championship.

So despite the ranking disparity, it's almost hard to call the Tigers' 72-61 win an upset - the Tigers were who Wildcats fans thought they were. And as Glenn Logan of A Sea Of Blue described, it simply overwhelmed the Wildcats.
